Take me out to the ballgame!

Get ready Goizueta Sports fans – the new Braves Stadium is open for business! Goizueta MBA Programs had an opportunity to attend the Braves home opener on Friday, April 14, 2017 and we had a fabulous time. Not only did the Braves win 5-4 over the San Diego Padres, the general admission tickets were only $10! The ticket included entrance to the game as well as two drink tickets to Terrapin Brewery in The Battery, the booming new area outside the stadium. Before first pitch and the sensational opening ceremony, the MBA classes mixed and mingled while enjoying...

Goizueta’s #MBAsOpenUp

What makes Goizueta unique? This is the kind of business school where students don’t shy away from discussing the hard stuff. You’ll find ongoing conversations not only about accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, but also justice, race, society. Certainly, #MBAsOpenUp at Goizueta. In mid-October, the Black MBA Association at Goizueta organized a series of events in solidarity with other top MBA programs across the country participating in #MBAsOpenUp, a campus response to the Black Lives Matter movement . The kick-off event headlined by Dean Erica James, where she spoke personally about her experiences with race both professionally and in terms of her...

Health Technology Innovation in Africa: Goizueta’s Core Values at Work

This summer, three GBS classmates and I had the opportunity to join in on an ongoing partnership which perfectly exemplifies Goizueta’s core value of Collaboration. The partnership between the African Network for Drugs and Diagnostic Innovation (ANDI) and Emory kicked off this year; its goal is to support African scientist-entrepreneurs in bringing their biotech inventions through the most challenging periods of commercialization and all the way to market, where they can have real impact on people’s health and well-being. The biotech projects the partnership supports are local innovations driven by local talent in hopes of addressing pressing and traditionally-neglected local health...

TWO YEAR VETERAN REFLECTION

Submitted by Benjamin Feldman, U.S. Army Veteran and Two Year 2016 alumnus. Co-President of Goizueta Veterans Club 2015-16. I’ve just finished my 2nd year, full-time MBA at Goizueta, and previously I was an active duty, U.S. Army infantry officer for 7 years.   For many reasons this past  semester was a great one, but the biggest reason was that I decided to accept my full-time offer from Citigroup here in Atlanta, and so my wife Alison and I are very excited to settle down here in the city. I had a great internship experience with Citi this past summer, and...

Beach Week is the Best Week

The last class was over. We survived disorientation. The only thing standing between the class of 2016 and graduation was the blissful time known as beach week. During my first year, I didn’t have time to go to beach week due to preparations for our final Goizueta Marketing Strategy Consultancy presentation. The additional practice was well worth it, but I felt like I missed out on an opportunity to bond with my classmates. Given the lighter course load during my second year I made sure to attend this Goizueta tradition. The great part about beach week is that it...

Goizueta Golfs…A Lot

“It’s good sportsmanship to not pick up lost golf balls while they are still rolling”- Mark Twain MBAs are generally competitive. One does not leave his or her job for a year (or two) if they aren’t confident that they can find a position in the field of their choice upon graduation. That competition manifests itself in many ways. For example, several classmates won the IM basketball title two years in a row. It helps having teammates who played basketball in college! I prefer a different form of competition: golf. Every year the Golf Club organizes a tournament for...

One Last Formal

This April, the Graduate Business Association organized the last formal for the Class of 2016. Consider this the equivalent of business school “prom”. The group I was with treated it as such with a large dinner at Melting Pot before walking to the Egyptian Ballroom at Fox Theatre. The Fox Theatre is an Atlanta landmark that has several ballrooms that can host events as well as a large theatre for different entertainment purposes. As part of Club 16, an effort to increase engagement between the class and the various locations of Atlanta, students are encouraged to attend the Fox...

More Time to Learn, Play, Explore with Fridays “Off” at Goizueta

Sure, who wouldn’t love a four day “work” week? But, before I came to Goizueta I didn’t quite know what having Fridays off would look like. Would they just be the overspill of a deluge of homework and team meetings? Would it be true down-time to catch up on one’s personal life? In actuality, I’ve found Fridays to be a precious time filled with opportunities to explore aspects of Goizueta and Atlanta that fall outside of the regularly scheduled programming. On Friday two weeks ago, myself and ten other first year students met in the late morning with Dean...
