One-Year MBA Veteran Reflection at Graduation

Pictured: One Year MBA students at Jennifer’s (5th from left) housewarming Submitted by Jennifer Kraus, One Year MBA 2017 and Army veteran Only a year ago, I moved to Atlanta and was preparing to start the One Year MBA program at Goizueta. Now, I am in the last week of classes, counting down to graduation, and preparing to start as a global business manager at Wipro this summer. The year has been a whirlwind – I had a general idea of what I wanted to do when I came to pursue my MBA but this year has helped me more...

VETERAN VIEW ON TRIP TO GETTYSBURG

Submitted by Grant McGarry, Army Veteran and WEMBA ’17 (This post relates to the MBA trip to Gettysburg and the Army War College, an optional leadership experience coordinated by LTG (Ret) Ken Keen, Associate Dean of Leadership Programs). As a Veteran the Gettysburg experience with the Army War College Foundation was simply awe inspiring and very meaningful. Not knowing what to expect of the actual Strategic Leader Staff Ride upon arrival, I can look back and say that it was way more than what I expected. Standing on the hollowed grounds of a battlefield that shaped who we are...

ONE-YEAR AT GOIZUETA: ALANNA HOLMAN – BRAZIL MSM PART 2: RIO DE JANEIRO

Cidade Maravilhosa!  My sentiments exactly when I arrived in Rio de Janeiro.  From the landscape, buildings and people, Rio is truly vibrant.  The sun was out and shining, beckoning us to soak it all in. During the week, our company visits introduced us to all aspects of business in Rio, especially in regards to sports and the 2016 Summer Olympics.  However, my favorite company visit was at the headquarters of Rock in Rio.  We were fortunate to have CEO Louis Justo present to us.  He shared the exciting story of this historic music festival and its success as an entertainment...

ONE-YEAR AT GOIZUETA: ALANNA HOLMAN – BRAZIL MSM PART 1: SÃO PAULO

Mid-Semester Modules (MSM) are an excellent opportunity to meet the Global Requirement for graduation and learn about business in another country and continent.  It’s also a great opportunity to become closer to your Full-Time MBA classmates while exploring new territory. For me, this was an extra special opportunity: I’ve never traveled abroad before.  I knew when starting my One-Year journey, that I wanted to be a part of an international MSM.  What better way to stamp my passport than with my classmates?  I chose Brazil as my first destination because 1) it is summer during our winter (i.e. no...

ONE-YEAR AT GOIZUETA: BRETT PATTERSON – SOUTHEAST ASIAN FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH, & DINNER

“How has this experience changed you?” – The prompt for the final paper following our Mid-Semester Module foray around Singapore and Malaysia “I’ve gotten a little fatter…?” – My first thought in regards to the two weeks of Southeast Asian delights I have to admit, as thrilled as I was to explore a new continent and culture and cross some places off my travel bucket list, I was also a little nervous about acclimating to the Southeast Asian diet.  Growing up, my family had a steady rotation between American, Italian, and Mexican food.  I have always been a little...

VETERANS IN BRAZIL

Every spring our students participate in MidSemester Modules. These curricular requirements can be completed stateside or abroad. Two of our U.S. Army veterans, Jonathan Brinks and Charles Stewart, who are first year students in the Two Year MBA program, travelled with their classmates to Brazil.  Here are some postcard scenes from their trip. SPRING BREAK VETERAN STYLE

Submitted by Leland Franks, Two Year MBA 2017 and Goizueta Veterans Club president. Nine days in wine country!  We worked our way up and down Sonoma Valley tasting some of the best wines in the world.  We ended up as members of an irresponsible number of wineries, and made a strong start to the wine collection!  Best vacation we have ever taken! ONE-YEAR AT GOIZUETA: SCOTT KAGAN – THE UNBELIZEABLE SUMMER FINALE

The summer will fly by, they said.  It is a ton of work but strangely you will miss it, they said.  Being the skeptic I am, I found these words hard to comprehend.  Yet, as I sit in the start of my fall semester, I can certainly confirm both of those statements.  Why do I think the summer flew by and how will I miss it?  For starters, the old adage of “time flies when you are having fun” certainly would apply (see previous posts).  Additionally, with such a jam packed schedule it is utterly impossible to be bored,...
