As I approach the halfway point of my time as a MEMBA student, I could not have not made it this far without the support of my boss, coworkers and organization. I am lucky enough to work for Emory, and it wasn’t long after starting my job at the university that I was bitten by the academic bug.
Grupo SURA’s offices in Medellin, Colombia, are located in El Poblado, the city’s financial and business corridor and an area popular with tourists because of its hotels, bars and restaurants. Grupo SURA, a Colombian multinational holding company with 2017 revenues of $7 billion and primary businesses in investment banking, asset management and insurance services, is the main tenant in One Plaza Business Center — a sleek modern high rise.
Entrepreneurial empowerment takes on a breadth and depth unknown to me in any other context. This El Salvador Executive MBA trip was an amazing experience from beginning to end, enabling students and alumni the opportunity to experience social enterprise in an emerging market context with the political, historical, social and cultural layers unique to El Salvador’s rich history.
Tiffany Willis saw the writing on the wall. She had plenty of corporate experience in accounting, auditing and consulting but knew she would need more if she hoped to lead a team: Job listings for positions she wanted said “MBA preferred.”
