When evaluating a business school program, it’s absolutely essential to speak with current students and faculty. In fact, it’s usually part of the official recruiting process for most MBA programs and for good reason. Let me explain why.
With any MBA program, you’re not only embarking on an educational journey: you’re committing to positive transformation. Through a curriculum with team projects, leadership workshops, recruiting with top companies, etc., you’ll be faced with brand new experiences that will challenge you to evolve into a more intuitive, knowledgeable, and confident businessperson. There is no bigger proponent for success in this process than the support of your community.
Your classmates, program directors, career management center, and other components of an effective MBA community are the people who will support you in the long run. During your recruitment process, you want to determine if the school’s community is composed of many different educational and occupational backgrounds and is greater than the sum of its parts. Therefore, no matter how unique your future aspirations may be, you can rely on your community based on a shared respect for each other’s differences and ambitions.
A major benefit of Goizueta Business School’s program, and Atlanta as a cultural center, is the variety of people you’ll meet from all walks of life. My colleagues constantly surprise me with their diversity of upbringings, amazing past experiences, and unique hobbies.
Take it from me: I am in my second semester at Goizueta Business School, and even with an added challenge of quarantine, my classmates and I have already been able to form close bonds across Goizueta’s many leadership, career, and alumni groups. I’ve developed friendships with classmates from places including Iran, Tanzania, Jamaica, and Taiwan, who I may have never come into contact with otherwise.

You will be intertwined with your MBA community in a variety of ways throughout your program; through shared experience, you will develop a whole network of close friends. My favorite example involves meeting with our student team to finalize a group project, then grabbing lunch and having a lengthy heart-to-heart about anything from our social lives to our cultural backgrounds to our dreams for the future.
Earning your MBA will be an invaluable experience for expanding your cultural horizons as much as it will be for educational advancement.
