Veteran Spotlight: Jenell Ryan 26MBV, U.S. Marine Corps

Tell us a little about your background and your journey in the military.
I am a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, where I served as a Field Radio Operator (0621) before later transitioning into the Marine Security Guard program. During my time in service, I had the opportunity to live and work in over a dozen countries, supporting embassy operations and strengthening cross-cultural relationships around the world. My military experience shaped me in ways that go far beyond technical skills, instilling discipline, adaptability, and a deep sense of responsibility to lead and serve others. After transitioning out of the military, I continued serving in a different capacity as a Department of Defense contractor at Walter Reed, supporting critical operations in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment. Today, I carry forward those experiences as I pursue my graduate studies and continue building a career centered on leadership, impact, and service.

Why did you choose Goizueta Business School?
Choosing Goizueta was a very intentional decision for me. I was looking for a program that not only valued academic excellence but also genuinely supported veterans in their transition into business leadership. The Master of Business for Veterans program stood out because of its strong sense of community, its commitment to developing principled leaders, and its ability to translate military experience into real-world business impact. What truly set Goizueta apart was the people. From the moment I engaged with the program, I felt challenged in the best way. It’s more than a business school, it is a place where I’ve been able to grow, refine my voice, and align my purpose with my professional goals.
What are your career goals?
My career goals center around leveraging my leadership experience and global perspective to make a meaningful impact in business. I am particularly interested in consulting, brand strategy, and product marketing, with a long-term vision of working within the beauty or consumer goods industry. I am passionate about helping organizations connect more authentically with their audiences while driving strategic growth. Ultimately, I want to be in positions where I can influence decision-making, build inclusive and innovative strategies, and create opportunities—especially for women and underrepresented communities—to elevate and thrive. In addition, I have always had a passion for teaching and mentorship. Becoming an adjunct professor at the collegiate level is a goal I am actively exploring, as I would love the opportunity to give back, share my experiences, and help develop the next generation of leaders.

What do you enjoy outside of work or school?
Outside of school, I enjoy practicing Pilates, which has become both a physical and mental outlet for me. It is a space where I can reset, stay grounded, and prioritize my overall well-being. I also love to swim and recently discovered a new passion for diving. I went diving for the first time in Belize this past December, and it sparked a newfound hobby that I am excited to continue exploring. I’m looking forward to diving again this summer. I truly value spending quality time with my family, especially my parents, who have been married for over 50 years. Their relationship is a constant source of inspiration for me, and I cherish the time I get to spend with them. I also enjoy building community, supporting, and uplifting other women, and working on initiatives that empower others to recognize their potential and step into their next level. At my core, I am passionate about leaving people better than I found them, whether that is through a smile, a conversation, encouragement, or simply showing up with intention.
