Valerie Williams – Experiencing South Africa Day 9

Table Mountain – A trip to Cape Town is not complete without a trip up Table Mountain. From this angle you can see all of downtown Cape Town and on the other end you can look out onto Camp’s Bay. Robben Island – We were able to hear from a former political prisoner about his experience of actually being incarcerated on Robben Island. We also saw Nelson Mandela’s cell where he served 19 of the 27 years while he was incarcerated. Very powerful experience.

Wine Tour – We visited Stellenbosch and Boschendal – fabulous wineries just outside of Cape Town. I wouldn’t quite call them “tastings” since Stellenbosch gave us 10 wines to “taste.” Cape Town, South Africa – Fire and Ice milkshake – Who knew that our hotel would have the best milkshakes in Cape Town? Mandela House – Part of visiting Soweto was stopping by the Mandela House, which now preserves the history and legacy of the Mandela family. We had lunch right across the street with traditional South African cuisine… yum! Apartheid Museum,  South Africa – Each of us received an admission ticket that was either “nonwhite” or “white” and had to enter in separate doors based on our classification, setting the tone for the museum before we even entered. Primary School – My favorite part of the trip! Visiting the Nkholi Primary School in Soweto was amazing. These kids were absolutely adorable...
