La Chureca Landfill Entrepreneurs – This school located in the middle of a large landfill, offers a free education to over 400 children pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The school provides meals and health care as well. We spent our time there playing with the kids. It broke my heart to see kids rummaging through trash on our way inside. We went into Los Robles to field a focus group with the community to learn what health services are available and what services are needed. The overall goal is to assess the opportunity to build a health clinic.
Finca El Peten – The view is really breathtaking. John who oversees Communidad Connect (our host) runs the farm Finca el Peten sustainably. For example, only organic pesticides are used and coffee by products are processed into fertilizer.
